When I am away from Ann Arbor, one of the first things I miss is the greatest coffee in the world, Zingerman's Coffee. Yes, I know I can buy it by the pound and brew it myself, and I have had a few pounds with me at all times over the years, but it's just not the same.
There is something magical about the barista's of this coffee company. They are award winners. They consider me a regular. They often have a good conversation going on behind the counter. I think that is really what you are looking for in a coffee house. A sense of beloning and a highly tasty and addictive substance that is being served. When I am there, they are happy to answer my questions, or provide a sample. They are kind and nice people providing a quality product. I am a huge fan.
So I find myself in Toronto again this week stuck with a Second Cup or Timmy's. Both are reasons I moved away from Toronto and back to Ann Arbor, home of the greatest cup of coffee in the world. And as Everywhere Man I do not say this lightly. I have had lot's of American coffee. The second best cup of coffee was in San Francisco at a small independent shop that was in Pacific Heights but is now closed. This would bump the third best cup of coffee up a spot, The Four Seasons Resort Hualalai at Historic Ka'upulehu (with Spam and eggs). There was a really good cup of java in Madrid. Let's face it, it was more about the location and not the coffee on these two.
If I had my choice I would be at Zingerman's every morning. As it is now I am there ever Saturday and Sunday morning writing. It's a nice goal, write every day and leave the cares and troubles of software world behind. Ugh, it will be a tough morning without it.
